Volumetric weight calculation to be gradually introduced from 1 November

21.10.2026

From 1 November 2026, the use of volumetric weight will be gradually introduced when calculating prices for SmartPosti Express Business Day Parcel shipments. This means that not only the actual weight of a shipment but also its dimensions, or volumetric weight, may be taken into account.

The changes will apply to shipments to Europe, as well as courier deliveries within the Baltics and to Finland. They will not apply to deliveries to parcel lockers.

How will the shipment price be calculated?

In accordance with the terms of our cooperation agreement, SmartPosti may take into account both the actual weight and the volumetric weight of a shipment when calculating the price.

Starting from 1 November, this pricing method will be introduced gradually, and the higher of the two values may be used to calculate the price.

For example, if a shipment weighs 5 kg but its volumetric weight is 10 kg, 10 kg will be used to calculate the price.

How is volumetric weight calculated?

SmartPosti uses the following formula to calculate volumetric weight:

Length (m) × width (m) × height (m) × 250 = volumetric weight (kg)

For example, for a shipment measuring 0.5 × 0.4 × 0.2 m:

0.5 × 0.4 × 0.2 × 250 = 10 kg

The volumetric weight of this shipment is therefore 10 kg.

Will the changes apply to parcel locker deliveries?

No. The changes will not apply to deliveries to SmartPosti parcel lockers.

If you have any questions about the changes or how they may affect your shipments, please contact your SmartPosti sales representative or email us at atbalsts@smartposti.lv.
